History of the Program:

Green Apple began developing the domestic violence program in 2020. It started off on a very simple level. Over the years, we have developed a more robust program that follows Montana statutes and uses validated practices with the ultimate goal of improving public safety reducing recidivism. Currently, if data is correct, we stand at <5% recidivism rate.

Defending of Hours in program:

(4) (a) An offender convicted of partner or family member assault is required to pay for and complete a counseling assessment with a focus on violence, controlling behavior, dangerousness, and chemical dependency. An investigative criminal justice report, as defined in 45-5-231, must be copied and sent to the offender intervention program, as defined in 45-5-231, to assist the counseling provider in properly assessing the offender's need for counseling and treatment…

(b) The offender shall complete all recommendations for counseling, referrals, attendance at psychoeducational groups, or treatment, including any indicated chemical dependency treatment, made by the counseling provider. The counseling provider must be approved by the court…The offender shall complete a minimum of 40 hours of counseling. The counseling may include attendance at psychoeducational groups, as defined in 45-5-231, in addition to the assessment. The preliminary assessment and counseling that holds the offender accountable for the offender's violent or controlling behavior must meet the standards established pursuant to 44-7-210 and be:

Curriculum:

Emotionally Intelligent Batterer Intervention:  a domestic violence intervention participant workbook. Adapted for implementation efficacy, this Second Edition integrates ten years of participant feedback and utilization review. The program has been republished under the title EMAP. EMAP is a comprehensive, trauma-informed participant workbook for domestic violence groups and a self-help guide for high-conflict couples. With a strong emphasis on compassion, mindfulness, and accountability, EMAP teaches self-acceptance, emotional regulation, and impulse control. Accountability is a tool used to strengthen self-esteem and regulate emotion. Participants learn to identify and override harmful thinking patterns while healing old wounds. Individuals become vulnerable, transparent, and authentic as they develop an internal locus of control through powerful cognitive restructuring techniques. Throughout the program, this workbook promotes healthy boundaries, assertiveness skills, conflict resolution, emotional intelligence, empathy, and responsible parenting.

Duluth Model:

Research has found that by applying all the components of the Duluth Model, 68% of offenders who move through Duluth’s criminal justice system and men’s nonviolence classes do not reappear in the system eight years out. Communities worldwide that have adopted components of the Duluth Model have also found significant reductions in re-offense rates. Victims:

Victims may be required to coordinate with State Victim Liaisons and work with Green Apple to proceed with reunification.
